2010

 

dAlexandra Cocleaza, Chief Operating Officer is a junior at Yale University pursuing a double major in Chemistry and Economics. Hailing from Romania, she is interested in European markets and is passionate about educating peers and international students about finance and science. This summer she will intern as a market analyst with Evogene, a biotech company in Tel Aviv, Israel. When she is not in the lab doing research, she enjoys Origami, learning the languages of the countries she visits, and Texas Hold'em poker.

 

 

 

aShelley Foran, Chief Marketing Officer '12 is a junior at Yale University, majoring in Cognitive Science with a focus in Reasoning and Decision Making. In addition to Smart Woman Securities, she is active in the Saybrook College Council, currently as Treasurer and previously as Secretary, and formerly served as the Secretary of the university-wide Freshman College Council. Shelley is also involved in the Women's Leadership Institute, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Yale Students for Christ, the United Church of Westville, and Saybrook College Big Sibling Program. Having recently spent a very memorable summer studying abroad in Spain, Shelley loves speaking Spanish and also enjoys road trips, volleyball, reading, cooking, and all things Texan. 

 

 

aKeira Lu, Chief Research Officer, ’11 is a senior double majoring in Economics and International Studies at Yale University. She was born in China and grew up in the multicultural city-state of Singapore. Apart from serving as the Chief Research Officer for SWS Yale, Keira is also the Events Coordinator for Sphere Magazine and is on the Financial Council of International Students’ Organization at Yale. Keira enjoys learning foreign languages, drawing, dancing and playing the electronic organ. As a GIC scholar, Keira will return to Singapore upon graduation to work for the country’s sovereign wealth fund. 

 

 

dLena Ren, Co-Chief Executive Officer, '11 is a double major in East Asian Studies and International Studies at Yale.  As SWS Yale's 2010-2011 co-CEO and 2009-2010 CDO, Lena is passionate about women empowerment and loves finding new ways to bring financial knowledge and resources to women at Yale.  Lena grew up in beautiful San Francisco, and in her spare time, she loves to play the piano and cello, travel, engage in anything art-related (painting, graphic design, visiting museums, etc.) and scope out delicious eateries wherever she goes.  In fall 2009, Lena studied abroad at Peking University and interned with the United Nations Development Programme as an Investments Intern.  In the summer of 2010, Lena looks forward to interning at UBS Investment Bank as an investment banking summer analyst.

 

 

kRan Tao, Co-Chief Executive Officer, '11 is a senior at Yale, pursuing a major in Economics, with a special focus on the fascinating human biases as explained by behavioral economics. Born in Chongqing, China, Ran was a founding member of the Yale University chapter of Smart Woman Securities and acted as the Chief Operating Officer in 2009-2010. In the fall of 2009, Ran spent a semester abroad at Peking University and interned under the Strategy and Planning team at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, Beijing. This summer, she will intern at Cooke & Bieler, an investment counsel firm, in the historical city of Philadelphia. On campus, Ran formerly served on the Freshman Class Council and the Yale Student Activities Committee, and as the Vice President for External Affairs of the Ivy Council. In her spare time, Ran enjoys reading, visiting art museums, practicing yoga, photographing people and nature, and learning about women empowerment and social entrepreneurship.

 

 

aRobin Tang, Chief Development Officer, '11 is an economics major at Yale. After an exceptionally rewarding experience with the SWS speaker series and the Warren Buffett trip last year, Robin hopes to further her involvement in SWS Yale as the 2010-2011 CDO. Aside from her passion for finance, she has also dedicated a significant amount of time to community service activities on campus. Robin spent the first decade of her life in the historical city of Xi'an in China, and has since lived in Virginia. As an only child, Robin sometimes finds home boring and prefers to travel abroad with friends whenever possible. Aside from traveling, Robin also enjoys playing tennis, reading, cooking with mom's recipes, and getting pedicures. Her 2010 summer started with a 2-week trip to Egypt, and she is looking forward to dedicating the rest of her time to an internship in the Public Finance department at Morgan Stanley.  

 

 

aAlicia Vesely, Chief Investment Officer, ’12 is a double major in Political Science and International Studies at Yale University. She was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and enjoys squash, UGA football, running, and making cookies. Aside from her work with SWS, Alicia is a volunteer with Squash Haven, an urban squash program for middle schoolers based in Yale's Payne-Whitney Gymnasium. Last summer, she interned with the US Securities and Exchange Commission in the Department of Reorganization. This summer, she is moving into the private sector with a treasury internship with Liz Claiborne, Inc.

Katherine Adams, Chief Research Officer ’10 is a senior at Yale University majoring in Economics and Applied Mathematics. Besides being a part of the founding board of Smart Woman Securities at Yale, she is a member of the Yale Women's Crew team and in her spare time enjoys producing short films and writing original songs.

 

 

 

Alexandra Cook, Chief Investment Officer '11 is a junior at Yale University, majoring in Modern Middle Eastern Studies. She was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and enjoys traveling, learning languages, acting and meeting new people. On campus, she is a founding member of Smart Woman Securities, assistant treasurer of Pi Beta Phi, business editor of Style Magazine, and a member of the Yale Herald Newspaper business staff. She is also a Public Relations' assistant for Maya, a student-runconsulting, marketing and creative company and she is a board member of the Undergraduate Organizations' Funding Committee. She will be interning at UBS in New York City this summer where she will be rotating through various divisions.

 

 

Jia Huang, co-Chief Executive Officer ’11 is the Co-CEO and Founding Partner of Smart Woman Securities (SWS) at Yale. In addition to working with the SWS team and studying Economics and International Studies, Jia enjoys working as an Event Representative on the Yale College Council and as an Event Planner at the Millstein Center for Corporate Governance & Performance at the Yale School of Management. Jia grew up in Denmark and has a passion for skiing, dancing, and cooking, recently taking third place in the Yale Iron Chef competition. Jia loved being a part of the President’s Summer Internship Program at UBS Investment Bank last summer and looks forward to joining the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs in the summer of 2010.

 

 

 

Joanna Da Lu, co-Chief Executive Officer ’11 is a junior Economics and Anthropology major in Ezra Stiles College at Yale from San Diego, California, by way of Tokyo, China, and Singapore. As Co-President and Education Chair of SWS, she plans to develop an extensive training program that will provide all SWS members with the knowledge and skills necessary to invest in companies, while working to create a cohesive and welcoming community of female leaders at Yale for networking, educational, and friendship purposes. She is involved in various organizations on campus in the realms of business and fashion, including Maya, YCouture, stYle Magazine, Yale Daily News Business, Yale Women's Leadership Initiative, and Pi Beta Phi. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis and water sports, traveling, watching movies, shopping and fashion-related activities, and reading a plethora of food blogs despite the fact that she does not have a kitchen. For the past summers few summers, she has explored several roles in the corporate world through internships with Humana, Inc. and Sino Group, and plans to embark on an Around-the-World trip when she graduates.

 

 

 

 

Lena Ren, Chief Development Officer ’11 is a double major in East Asian Studies and International Studies at Yale University. Besides being a part of the founding board and serving as Chief Development Officer for SWS Yale, Lena is involved with the Light Fellowship Committee and Kappa Kappa Gamma.  This past fall, she studied abroad at Peking University in Beijing and interned at the United Nations as an Investments Intern.  In her spare time, Lena enjoys food, fashion, art, music and pageants.

 

 

 

 

 

Ran Tao, Chief Operating Officer ’11 is a junior at Yale University, pursuing a major in Economics, with a special focus on behavioral economics.  As a founding member of the Yale University chapter of Smart Woman Securities, Ran is the Chief Operating Officer and manages infrastructure and finance.  On campus, Ran is also involved in The Ivy Council, serving as its Vice President for External Affairs. In her spare time, Ran enjoys art, yoga, running, reading, and baking delicious treats.
