Stephanie Downey '14 (chapter lead) is an Economics and Public Policy double major pursuing a Certificate in Markets and Management. On campus, in addition to founding the Duke Chapter of Smart Woman Securities, Stephanie is an analyst for and member of the Duke Investment Club and a member of Alpha Kappa Psi.  Going forward, Stephanie’s long term goal is to pursue a Master’s of Business Administration.  Realizing that women of all disciplines stand to benefit from a broader understanding of the markets, investment techniques, and research analysis, Stephanie believes that SWS will provide a positive environment allowing women to gain real-world investment experience.

 

 

 

Lena Jia '14 is currently Pre-med, planning to double major in Economics and Neuroscience. Lena graduated from the Math, Science, Computer Science Magnet Program at Montgomery Blair High School. She has spent the past two summers as a research intern for the USDA and Georgetown University’s Lombardi Cancer Center. On campus, besides being a founding member of the Duke University Chapter of Smart Woman Securities, she is also involved with the America Reads America Counts tutoring program (ARAC), Asian Students Association (ASA), and is an active staff member of the Campaigns Division of GlobeMed Organization.


 

 

 

 

 

Liz Jones '12 is majoring in Political Science, minoring in Psychology, and earning a Certificate in Markets and Management. Hailing from New York, this past summer Liz interned for an Internet start-up company, LearnVest.com, which focused on personal finance education for women. Since then she has developed a passion for investing and financial literacy education. On campus, Liz has served as a Senator for the Duke Student Government, is the academic chair for Delta Delta Delta sorority, tutors at local Durham charter schools, is an active member of the Duke Marketing Club, and was selected to serve as a representative for the Duke Student Development Advisory Committee.

 

 

 

Nicole Leung '14 is pursuing a double-major in neuroscience and economics with a concentration in finance. Nicole graduated as President of  the National Honor Society at Stuyvesant High School. As a Chinese culture enthusiast, she serves as a founding member and VP of Public Relations for Global China Connection and co-freshman representative of Chinese Students Association. She is also an Executive Board member of Economics Student Union. Additionally, Nicole has been focused in the sciences early on since high school. After researching under a great mentor at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Nicole was a finalist at the New York City Science and Engineering Fair. With interests in the sciences and finance, she is pursuing a career that will enable her to be a liaison between both fields.

 


 

Luxi Wei '14 is a Math and Environmental Science & Policy major, pursuing a minor in Finance. On campus, in addition to being the Director of Mentor Relations of SWS Duke Chapter, she is also a founding partner of Second Language in Action and an active member of Roots and Shoots. Besides finance, she is also passionate about environmental protection. She is a campaign coordinator of Environmental Alliance and interns at Duke Clinical Research Institute for sustainability programs. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career that connects finance and environment.

 


 

 

 

Flannery (Siyu) Zhou ‘14 intends to double major in Economics and Philosophy-Visual Arts Interdepartmental Major. Besides serving as one of the two co-COOs of SWS, Flannery is also a junior Executive Board member of Duke China Care (DCC) and a student advisor of the Lilly Library Advisory Board in Duke. Out of campus, Flannery is a founding partner and Executive Board member of App-ark Educational Consulting Co. (Registered in Shanghai, China). She founded the company with several of her friends to change the severe situation of China’s college application market by providing consulting service for college students with a reasonable price. Besides her strong passion of economics and business since junior high school, Flannery also holds broad interests in literature, visual arts, and music. She published her book Dream in Dreams in 2009 and devoted all her income from the book to build a reading room for local kids in Gansu Province of China.
