cChelsea Blake ’12 is pursuing studies in Industrial Labor Relations.  Outside of her major, she has a strong interest in finance and has explored this passion through a summer internship at HSBC in London, working under the Head of Commercial Finance for Europe.  Her passion for SWS stems from her desire to empower women to flourish and succeed in the field of finance and to bring together a community of students with the shared goal of learning investment strategy and techniques.  On campus, she also serves as Membership Chair of the Cornell Entrepreneurship Organization, is involved in the Society for Women in Business, and is a member of the Sigma Delta Tau Sorority.  Additionally, Chelsea enjoys playing tennis, running, movies, and traveling.

aAngelique Boyer ’11 (chapter lead) is a Biological Sciences major with a concentration in nutrition in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. In the past, she has worked for Hope For Youth, a non-profit organization that provides clinical and preventative services to children from unstable households. Angelique is very interested in health disparities, especially the correlation between nutrition and disease among low-income households. She is interested in attending medical school or graduate school after graduation, and sees SWS as an organization that would fulfill an unmet need at Cornell. In addition to being part of Smart Woman Securities, she serves as Director of Finance for IMARA magazine (geared towards multicultural women’s issues), and Administrative Director of the Help A Life Organization. In her spare time, Angelique also enjoys reading, crocheting, and playing the piano.

me!.jpgOsarieme Evbuomwan '11 is a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Sociology with a minor in Inequality Studies. Her long term goal is to pursue a Master’s in Public Health and work closely with health care facilities improving the patient-doctor relationships. She hopes to start her own non-profit organization some time in the future and acknowledges that having a financial background will help her tremendously. She is a New York State academic scholar and member of the Cornell Tradition which is a program in her school dedicated to service learning and community service. This program helps sponsor service projects across the nation and in other countries. In the end of her spring semester, Osarieme will partake in Global Medical Brigades, using her Spanish skills to help treat patients in Honduras and teach Honduran communities about healthy living. Osarieme is currently the President of the Nigerian Students Association and Vice President of the CU Tonight Commission, which is a student-run funding organization on Cornell’s campus. Both organizations have dealt with handling considerably large sums of money and this has got her very interested in learning about investing and making the most well-informed financial decisions. As one of the founding members of Smart Woman Securities at Cornell University, she hopes to gain the skills and knowledge base that will allow her to make confident choices in banking and personal stocks.

eIfechukwude Ikem '11 is a junior Biology and Society major in the College of Arts and Sciences, with a minor in Global Health on the pre-med track. Ifechukwude, Iffie for short is originally from Richmond, Virginia. On Campus she is a founder member of Smart Woman Securities, Chair of CuTonight, Vice President of the Nigerian Students Association, a Cornell Ambassador, and a Cornell Tradition Fellow. From her experiences as Chair of CuTonight and on the Nigerian Students Association, she has learned how to manage money and also allocate it. With these skills and the skills taught during the fall seminar series, Iffie hopes to increase her knowledge base about investing and money managing. Iffie enjoys watching and playing basketball in her free time as well as reading Jane Austen books. This summer, Iffie hopes to fulfill her global health minor by going to Peru to volunteer at the local hospital in Cusco.

dArielle Kan ’13 is a freshman from the College of Engineering majoring in Operations Research and Information Engineering. Arielle came from a little red dot called Singapore where the word snow was never in her dictionary until she arrived in Ithaca. She believes that there should not be a gender distinction when it comes to matters such as finance or investment; women should be given equal opportunity to achieve financial literacy and be independent financially. Besides her interest in finance, Arielle is passionate about French language and the culture, where after six years of study of the French language has make her come to love the country and the language. She also enjoys drawing and playing the violin in her free time. Arielle started investing actively in stocks this semester (using a virtual account though), and is also in the midst of getting certified with the Bloomberg Terminal. Arielle was involved in the organization and execution of a similar financial literacy workshop/camp for Primary School students in Singapore, which aimed to educate young students the importance of keeping track of their money and how to go about doing it. Arielle has always believed that organizing events is a great way to improve your leadership skills, enjoy yourself in the process and benefit others at the same time. Hence she was actively involved in the planning and execution of many Math enrichment workshops/camps sponsored by the Gifted Education Branch in Singapore. Arielle is also involved in the Translator-Interpreter Program and the Singapore Students Association, and Cornell Investment Club.
