For the past few years, SWS has been honored to host an annual trip to visit Warren Buffett in Omaha. Below are some of the highlights from past trips to Omaha.

2006-07

Over 90 students from the Harvard attended the first ever trip to meet Mr. Buffett on October 5-6, 2006. Mr. Buffett graciously hosted a 2-hour Q&A session, then treated students to lunch at Gorat's, the famed Omaha restaurant. In addition to visiting Mr. Buffett and touring Berkshire Hathaway companies Borsheim's and Nebraska Furniture Mart, students also had the opportunity to visit the Gallup Organization, hear from Wally Weitz (the "other" Oracle of Omaha, acclaimed investor), as well as have dinner with top excecutives and leaders in Omaha including the Mayor of Omaha, President of the Chamber of Commerce, CFO of Mutual of Omaha (Fortune 500), President of the Omaha World Herald, CEO of Oriental Trading Company, Senior VP of Union Pacific (Fortune 500), CEO of First National Bank, and top executives at TD Ameritrade (Fortune 500), ConAgra (Fortune 500), Valmont, Omaha Steaks, Gallup, and a variety of other companies.

2007-08

SWS headed back to Omaha with over 110 students from SWS and the broader Harvard community on October 18-19, 2007. Mr. Buffett kicked off the trip by joining the group at Rick's Cafe Boatyard for dinner with other top executives, including the CEO of TD Ameritrade (Fortune 500), CEO of National Indemnity, CFO of Berkshire Hathaway (Fortune 500), CEO of First National Bank, CEO of American National Bank, EVP of Mutual of Omaha (Fortune 500) and executives from a variety of other companies. This year, the group had another inspiring 2 hour Q&A with Mr. Buffett, and lunch was held at Picolo Pete's, another favorite of Mr. Buffett's. In addition to the visit with Mr. Buffett, students also visited Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary Nebraska Furniture Mart, and also met with top executives at ConAgra, Union Pacific, and Omaha Steaks.

2008-09

Due to tremendous demand to meet Mr. Buffett, the SWS trip was downsized in order to accomodate other student organizations. On April 16-18, 2009, 27 SWS members from Columbia, Fordham, Harvard, and Yale arrived in Omaha. Mr. Buffett joined SWS for an exclusive dinner on the 16th, where SWS treated the Oracle to a steak and root beer float at Gorat's. The next day, SWS joined six other organizations for a 2 hour Q&A at the Omaha Field House, followed by lunch with Mr. Buffett at Picolo Pete's. In addition to the visit with Mr. Buffett, SWS also visited ConAgra and Nebraska Furniture Mart, and heard from Mr. Buffett's daughter, Susie Buffett on her work in philanthropy and education. SWS kept the tradition of hosting an annual executives dinner, with attendees including the SVP of Union Pacific (Fortune 500), President of ConAgra (Fortune 500), CEO of American National Bank, CEO of TD Ameritrade (Fortune 500), Chairman and former CEO of MidAmerican Energy (Berkshire subsidiary), as well as several other top executives.

2009-10

On April 8-10, members of the current and prospective Smart Woman Securities chapters ventured to Omaha, Nebraska to visit Warren Buffett. This was the fourth SWS trip to visit the “Oracle of Omaha,” and students were excited to get his insights on business, investing, careers, and life in general. Mr. Buffett graciously answered questions over steak dinners and root beer floats with SWS members and fielded additional questions during a two-hour Q&A session the following day. In addition to spending time with Mr. Buffett, SWS members visited The Gallup Organization, Nebraska Furniture Mart, TD Ameritrade, and Weitz Funds, where executives shared their invaluable experiences. The students also interacted with dynamic business leaders from various industries at the Business Executives Dinner, before wrapping up the trip with an SWS Interactive Event, where members shared best practices across chapters. 2010-11

On March 31-April 2, members of the 8 current Smart Woman Securities chapters ventured to Omaha, Nebraska to visit Warren Buffett. This was the fifth annual SWS trip to visit the Mr. Buffett. In addition to spending time with Mr. Buffett, SWS members visited ConAgra Foods, Nebraska Food Mart, TD Ameritrade, and Union Pacific. The students also interacted with dynamic business leaders from various industries at the Business Executives Dinner, before wrapping up the trip with an SWS Interactive Event.
