Smart Woman Securities (SWS) was started by two 2007 Harvard College graduates, Tracy Britt and Teresa Hsiao. Along with their Founding Team at Harvard, Teresa and Tracy publicly launched SWS in fall 2006. Today, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, SWS is run by a Board of Directors responsible for overall policy and direction of SWS. At the chapter level, SWS is completely run by students.

Tracy Britt, SWS Co-Founder

Tracy's initial interest in business came at a young age when she became involved in her family farm and business in Manhattan, Kansas. By the time she was 18 years old, Tracy was helping manage and oversee the company and her passion for business had been fully recognized. First introduced to the financial markets following her sophomore year of college, Tracy went on to hold internships at Banc of America, Lehman Brothers, and Fidelity Investments. Through independent research and the help of mentors, Tracy developed a deep passion for investing. Following a brief stint at Fidelity Investments in the fall of 2009, she joined Berkshire Hathaway in Omaha, Nebraska.

Tracy graduated from Harvard College in 2007 with a degree in economics and the Harvard Business School in 2009. On Harvard's campus, Tracy was the President of Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business (HUWIB) and participated in a variety of other organizations. By co-founding Smart Woman Securities, Tracy combined her love of investing with her sincere interest and dedication to educating women about financial independence and investing.  She hopes that SWS will continue to provide a forum in which women can learn about personal finance, investing, and the markets.

Teresa Hsiao, SWS Co-Founder

Teresa’s interest in finance stemmed from her experience at Harvard College, where she graduated with an Economics degree in June 2007. At Harvard, Teresa served on the Executive Board of Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business (HUWIB). In addition, she was the Editor-in-Chief for its first national magazine, Make it Happen, which premiered in September 2006. It was through her experiences in HUWIB that Teresa decided she wanted to devote her energy to helping women learn more about investing.

Teresa has interned at various companies including Dunkin’ Brands, Lehman Brothers, MTV Networks, and the New England Patriots. She is currently working in the GE Financial Management Program at NBC Universal. She plans to continue working on the growth and expansion of SWS in the coming years.
